Memories to be revived in American Samoa over 1974 Pan Am jet crash

An independent filmmaker from England is searching for people in American Samoa who helped recover survivors of a jet crash in the territory forty years ago.

87 people died when Pan Am flight 806 crashed short of the runway in January 1974 en route from New Zealand to the United States via American Samoa and Hawaii.

Paul Crompton will visit American Samoa later this month to interview local residents for a documentary about the crash, the worst aviation disaster in the territory's history.

He wants to talk to those who helped with the recovery operation and aims to produce a documentary for the families of those who died.
