Fiji's Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has been invited to the Australian High Commissioner's residence tonight to celebrate Australia Day.

Fiji Village reports that the High Commission has confirmed that invited have been sent to the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Commodore Bainimarama and cabinet ministers.

The High Commission has not held any formal Australia Day celebrations since the 2006 coup because of the strained relationship between Australia and Fiji.
