Officials at Sentani Airport in Jayapura, in Indonesia's Papua province, have arrested a man because he was carrying ammunition.

The Jakarta Post quotes airport police as saying the 30-year-old man was carrying eight 8.4 millimetre carbine cartridges.

Police say airport officials found the ammunition in his bag when it was scanned by an x-ray device.

The man claimed to be a student of the Indonesian Christian University in Jakarta but could not provide any personal identification when he was being examined by the police.
