Tongan church to start rebuilding 21 churches, halls and residences

The Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga is to rebuild 21 buildings wrecked when Cyclone Ian hit Ha'apai last month.

The reconstruction project will include church buildings, halls and residences for ministers.

The church's national secretary, Reverend Tevita Havea, who has just returned from Ha'apai, says his heart goes out to the people there and all of those living in tents, especially the elderly.

Radio Tonga reports the church will not ask for funding support on Ha'apai but will be looking for support on Tongatapu and abroad, with Methodist churches in Australia, New Zealand and the United States already pledging help.
