Reports from French Polynesia say a trial date has been set for Arihano Haiti who in 2011 was arrested for killing a German tourist, Stefan Ramin, on Nuku Hiva.

The Nouvelles de Tahiti says the murder trial will go ahead in May.

After being on the run for more than 50 days, Arihano Haiti surrendered to police and said he killed Mr Ramin because he had been raped.

Mr Ramin's remains were found to have been burnt.

Arihano Haiti reportedly also admitted having sexually assaulted Mr Ramin's partner who had raised the alarm when he had disappeared.
