The former attorney general of the Northern Marianas, Edward Buckingham, says former governor Benigno Fitial ordered the escort service provided to him.

Mr Buckingham took the witness stand during his trial yesterday in the Superior Court.

He told the court Mr Fitial provided him the escort service to the Saipan International Airport on the 4th of August 2012, after he called him and complained about a reporter's stakeout at a hotel where he and his wife were staying.

He also testified that he did not endorse the candidacy of then-delegate candidate and now Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho at a party at Mr Fitial's house in 2010.

Mr Buckingham also denied committing the other allegations in the criminal complaint filed by Office of the Public Auditor.

Yesterday also saw OPA legal counsel George Hasselback and attorney Richard Pierce, counsel for Mr Buckingham, give their closing arguments.

Mr Hasselback will make his rebuttal when the bench trial continues today.
