Israel Eliab has been named captain of the Papua New Guinea Hunters team for their inaugural season in the Queensland Cup.
Head Coach Michael Marum says there were many potential candidates but named Eliab as he had shown great leadership qualities from the first day the players moved into camp.
The Hunters season was officially launched on Saturday evening with a gala featuring Australian rugby league immortals Andrew Johns and Wally Lewis.
The Hunters make their competition debut this weekend against the Redcliffe Dolphins.
