Fiji closes all schools in central division as flood alert in force

10:19 am on 27 February 2014

The Fiji Ministry of Education says all schools in the central division will be closed from today.

It says the education ministry will closely monitor the weather situation, and has asked school heads to arrange the safe return of students to their homes.

It comes as a flood alert is now in force for low-lying areas of downstream Waimanu Station, including small streams adjacent to the downstream of the river.

The Fiji Metservice says a tropical depression is 110 kilometres northeast of the capital, Suva, this morning, and is slow morning.

It says associated cloud and active rain bands continue to affect most parts of the Fiji islands.
