EU to help Pacific countries with climate change funding

9:19 am on 28 February 2014

The European Union has signed an aid deal that will provide Pacific countries with 49 million US dollars for the region's Adapting to Climate Change and Sustainable Energy programme.

The programme is to help the island countries adapt to climate change, cut their reliance on fossil fuels and capacity building.

The signing came up during the 11 EDF talks being held at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat's offices in Suva.

The Forum secretary general, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, says the region warmly welcomes the EU's commitment to climate change and sustainable energy.
