Fiji electoral rules now due by end of week

The Fiji government says its Electoral Decree will be finalised by the end of the week.

The government has come under criticism for not earlier releasing the rules and regulations surrounding the elections it has promised by the end of September this year.

The decree was originally expected at the end of February but Fiji's Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has told Fiji media the delay is due to last week's adverse weather conditions.

He says the Fiji government would rather get it right as the decree addresses many practical election issues.
