Three dead in Vanuatu following Cyclone Lusi

11:42 am on 13 March 2014

The National Disaster Management Office in Vanuatu says three people have died from the effects of Cyclone Lusi.

Senior Liaison Officer Philip Meto says two of the dead were killed after being hit by flying tree branches and one person drowned in rough seas and was thrown ashore.

He says another person in Pentecost is in hospital in a serious condition.

Up to thirty people are still in evacuation centres as their homes have been completely destroyed.

Philip Meto says communication is difficult and officials are still collecting information on the total extent of damage from the cyclone and will prioritise recovery action once they know more.
