Fiji voting will take up to a minute says election official

A Fiji election official says it will take about a minute for voters to place their vote in the general election planned for September.

FBC News reports 86 percent of eligible voters have registered to vote.

The official, Asenaca Kolinivala, says the Electoral Decree will reveal whether voters place a tick or use numbers when making their choice.

She says voters are to vote in assigned polling stations and they will be issued with new identity cards if they have changed their address.

Ms Kolinivala says voters need to confirm their address if they are moving.

FBC reports the Electoral Decree is expected to be released this week.

Under the new constitution, Fiji will see the introduction of a single national constituency to be represented by 50 MPs.
