Reports from Solomon Islands say there are plans in one region to appoint representatives in order to avoid corrupt voting processes.

Solomon Islands Broadcasting reports a paramount chief from East Kwaio saying the area is planning to appoint national and provincial leaders because of past experiences.

Chief Ubuni Kwa'ilamo told SIBC News they will not register and vote in the national general elections this year, to avoid the manipulation of leaders through cash and material goods.

He says they will appoint two candidates for both the national and provincial government seats saying they would be candidates who would listen to the people.
