Nominations come in as Niue prepares for general election

3:15 pm on 1 April 2014

17 people have put their names forward to contest the six common roll seats in Niue's general election on April 12th.

24 nominations have been received for the 14 village seats but six of those seats have already been decided with just a single candidate contesting.

Five women have put their names forward for the common roll, with the same number contesting the village constituencies.

The electoral office will sign off on final numbers on Thursday, as by law they have to allow candidates time to withdraw.
