Fiji's Chaudhry pleads not guilty

A former prime minister of Fiji and the leader of the Labour Party, Mahendra Chaudhry, has pleaded not guilty to finance-related charges.

Mr Chaudhry is facing three charges under the Exchange Control Act.

The charges relate to alleged foreign currency dealings by Mr Chaudhry between 2000 and 2010

The Fiji Village website reports a Reserve Bank official called by the prosecution today has told the court Mr Chaudhry did not write to the bank for approval to open an overseas bank account as required.

The case before Justice Madigan is continuing.
