Sport: Tonga confident about Junior World Rugby Trophy chances

12:04 pm on 3 April 2014

Tonga coach Fe'ao Vunipola is hoping it's third time lucky for his team competing in the Junior World Rugby Trophy in Hong Kong.

The Kingdom will be vying with seven other teams for promotion to the Junior World Championship from next week.

The Under 20s team finished fifth last year in Vunipola's first year in charge, having come third in 2012.

Fe'ao Vunipola says they've had a much better preparation this time around and are ready to return to the top tier.

"We are grateful that we participated in the Australian Under 20 Championship. They had a trial to pick the Under 20s in Canberra last week and we had a good run. It served our purpose to pick our team from which we have players from New Zealand, some from here (Australia) and most from Tonga. I think we are better equipped than before, having played three games last week, we will go to the tournament with a strong feeling [and] players believing

in our preparation that we can do well."

Tonga will face Georgia, Hong Kong and the United States in pool play.
