Sport: Tonga U20s ready for rugby revival

2:02 pm on 7 April 2014

It will be a fresh-faced Tonga who kick-off their Junior World Rugby Trophy campaign against Georgia in Hong Kong on Monday night.

The Kingdom is vying with seven other teams for promotion to the Junior World Championship, having finished fifth last year and third in 2012.

Coach Fe'ao Vunipola says the team has had a thorough build-up playing three matches in the Australian Under 20 Championship.

Just one player is backing up from last year's squad and Fe'ao Vunipola says this year's team is much better equipped.

"Six of our players who was qualified to play all went their separate ways: four went to Japan, two on mormon missionaries, only one left and about four was in our squad last year who didn't make it. Most of the boys are fresh and new - I think we've got a good mix compared to last year".

Tonga will also face Hong Kong and the United States in pool play.
