Sport: Discipline costs Tonga U20s at the JWRT

12:12 pm on 8 April 2014

Tonga have slumped to a 34-10 loss against Georgia in their opening match at the Junior World Rugby Trophy in Hong Kong.

Georgia captain Saba Shubitidze opened the scoring in just the third minute and by halftime the Europeans had stretched their lead to 21-0.

Ill discipline proved costly for Tonga, who were twice reduced to 13 players as a result of yellow cards.

The Kingdom has four days to recover before their next Pool A match against hosts Hong Kong, who were thrashed 37-0 by the USA.

In the other games on day one, 2008 champions Uruguay edged Japan 33-28 while Namibia are surprise leaders in Pool B after an impressive 37-25 win against last year's runners-up Canada.
