American Samoa marks 114th Flag day

American Samoa today marks the 114th year since the Eastern Samoan islands became a United States territory.

Our correspondent says this year's Flag Day celebration is dedicated to the private sector under the theme "Government and Businesses in Partnership".

StarKist Samoa cannery, the largest private employer in the territory and Bluesky Communications are representing the business community in the traditional song and dance performances.

Other activities of the one-day celebration, is the official flag raising ceremony, a parade and speeches including one from the StarKist CEO Sam Lee.

The Senate President Gaoteote Tofau Palaie will deliver the Flag Day address.

Samoa Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegoi and the head of Tokelau, are the only top leaders from the region attending the celebration which includes a fautasi, or long boat race.
