Storm closes schools in CNMI

10:17 am on 29 April 2014

Tropical Storm Tapah is expected to graze Saipan and Tinian today and has forced both public and private schools to cancel classes.

Tapah has been moving northwards through the northwestern Pacific Ocean and its heavy rains and strong winds battered both islands yesterday.

It is expected to continue to intensify and may reach typhoon intensity and pass near both islands by noon.

Yesterday evening Tapah had maximum sustained winds of nearly 100 kilometres an hour and was moving north-northeast at 11 kilometres an hour.
