Solomons flood victims demand water tanks

There are still nearly 2,000 people at the Pavillion Camp, after several hundred returned to their homes last week when their palm oil company employer threatened they could lose their jobs.

The spokesperson for those remaining, Henry Bata, says the National Disaster Management Office has told them to leave today but he says without a source of clean water they will not go.

"That is the main need that we would like in our life. Only the water. No supplies have been given by the National Disaster Council and no bedding, no spoons, or not given garden tools or carpenter tools. Our desire is only water. We love water. If they gave us tanks we might go home and start our living again."

Henry Bata says the victims are planning to march on the Disaster Management Office building.
