Fiji's Anthony becomes new PDP head

7:19 am on 5 May 2014

The former trade unionist Felix Anthony is the new leader of Fiji's People's Democratic Party.

Fiji Village reports Mr Anthony contested with the outgoing Interim President of the party, Adi Sivia Qoro, for the leader's position.

Mr Anthony said the most important thing the party can offer to the people of Fiji is the multiracial make-up that was seen at Saturday's conference today, where 2000 people attended.

Mr Anthony says if the PDP wins it will develop a pension scheme that is flexible and realistic.

He says he will review the Fiji National Provident Fund to ensure members are able to enjoy the benefit of a fair and equitable superannuation scheme on retirement and not have to live under the poverty line.

Felix Anthony says the party has in its constitution a requirement of 20 percent women and 20 percent youth in its leadership.
