The Fiji Government has named former High Court judge, Nazhat Shameem, as the country's first Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva.

It says Ms Shameem's wide experience in the civil service, her extensive legal background and expertise makes her a suitable candidate for the type of work and advocacy required in Geneva.

Fiji's Mission in Geneva is being officially opened next month and Ms Shameem will move to Switzerland later this month.
