RAMSI proud of Solomons' police housing scheme

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands has dismissed media reports suggesting problems with the police housing project.

It says the 19 million US dollar scheme successfully built 144 houses between 2010 and 2013.

The media report, which Radio New Zealand International carried, said it relied exclusively on foreign pre-fabricated materials, and that it appeared activity was incomplete and at a standstill.

But RAMSI's Special Co-ordinator says that's not the case and the agency is very proud of the project.

She says local input amounted to 38 percent of the spending and has provided modern housing for police and their families within close proximity to their workplace.

She says in addition it has helped develop capacity in the building industry.
