Papua New Guinea's Police Commissioner, Tom Kulunga has been found guilty of contempt of court for failing to reinstate Geoffrey Vaki as Assistant Commissioner Police Operations.

Mr Vaki was suspended upon the orders of cabinet in 2012 pending the investigation of misconduct allegations against him.

The senior policeman had been cleared but Commissioner Kulunga has not reinstated him.

According to The National newspaper, the Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika ruled that Kulunga's letter advising Vaki of the lapse of his contract was "contemptuous in nature".
