The Papua New Guinea Hunters have slipped to fifth in the Queensland Cup rugby league standings after a 32-24 defeat to the Norths Devils.

Wartovo Puara scored the opening try of the match but the visitors trailed 22-6 at halftime.

Tries from Garry Lo and Esau Siune closed the gap to eight points midway through the second spell but Norths also found the line to leapfrog PNG into the top four.

The Hunters have now won six, drawn one and lost four matches, including two of their last three.
