Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to visit Papua New Guinea in July after his tour of Australia and New Zealand.

According to the Post Courier, PNG's Ambassador to Japan, Gabriel Dusava, says that the dates have not been confirmed but advises that Japan is planning for a two-day visit in mid July.

This will be the first time in 29 years that a Japanese prime minister has visited PNG.

An investment accord between Japan and PNG took effect in January allowing Japanese firms to operate businesses under the same conditions as local companies in PNG.
