French Polynesia's pro-independence opposition leader Oscar Temaru says the National Front's success in the European parliamentary election has also implications for his territory.
Mr Temaru says the result means while that France belongs to the French, Polynesia belongs to the Polynesians.
He has hailed last Sunday's election outcome in Tahiti as a victory as his son Tetuahau Temaru secured 40 percent of the votes on the list of the Socialists, giving them the best result in any of the constituencies.
The French Pacific's seat was however won by the centre-right UMP candidate, Maurice Ponga.
The abstention rate in French Polynesia was about 85 percent.
