An academic says the impartiality of Fiji's Supervisor of Elections is further in doubt following his dismissal of objections to the regime's new political party.

Mohammed Saneem announced the approval of the registration of the Fiji First party just hours after its general secretary, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, invited him to reject the six objections.
A Fiji academic at the Australian National University, Dr Brij Lal, says he's not surprised because Mr Saneem is the appointment of Mr Saiyed-Khaiyum, the Minister of Elections.
He says that as other parties begin to question whether the regime is also abiding by the rules of the election, it is starting to panic.
"The regime makes up the rules for itself as it goes along. You're not likely to get an open and transparent answer to the kinds of important questions that individual stakeholders are asking about the activities of the Fiji First group."
