Government workers in American Samoa can now deduct power from pay

Government employees in American Samoa can now deduct their power bill from their payroll checks, as a way to avoid disconnection.

The American Samoa Power Authority has reinstated payroll deductions for ASG employees after they discontinued the deductions for almost a decade.

KHJ News understands that payroll deductions were halted because the government was not paying ASPA, even though payments were deducted from employee's payroll checks.

The ASPA Customer Service Manager, Ryan Tuato'o, says more than a dozen ASG workers have already signed up for the payroll deduction since the service was recently reinstated.
