Residents in Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, are being asked to conserve water and electricity use as the water level at the Sirinumu Dam continues to fall.

PNG Power says that while the situation is not yet critical, it is asking the public to turn off all electrical appliances and not water their gardens.

EMTV reports that with the increase in the number of new buildings in the city, PNG Power is yet to design proper mechanisms to control the amount of electricity being used.
