Sport: Fijian athlete shot dead in US

The Fijian sporting community is in mourning after athletics representative Roy Ravana Junior was killed in a shooting incident in the United States.

The 20 year-old was in the US on an athletics scholarship at Iowa Central Community College.

Another person was injured in the incident, which took place early on Tuesday morning.

Sacramento Police say two males in their 20s were shot with the sole victim pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing two male suspects fled the scene on bicycles.

Ravana Junior had represented Fiji at the World Indoor and Junior World Championships as well as the Mini and Pacific Games.

He was to have competed at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
