PNG Rugby League select team for Commonwealth Nines

Papua New Guinea has announced a 15-strong squad top compete at the Commonwealth Rugby League U19 Nines Championships in Glasgow later this month.

The final team was selected during trials in Lae last week.

PNGRFL Chairman Sandis Tsaka says a number of player showed promise but the chosen group have skills that are best suited to the shortened version of Nines.

He says the players were selected irrespective of the regions they came from and that, going forward, PNG must pick players based on merit and not worry about what region they are from.

The team, which goes into camp on Sunday in Port Moresby, includes PNG Hunters representative Stanton Albert and Warren Glare and Nickson Borana from the Digicel Cup competition.

The squad departs on June the 21st for Glasgow and will be coached by Dennis Miall, who has been involved with the schoolboys program for the last three years.

The full squad is:

Bill Paul, Warren Glare, Stanton Albert, Gahuna Silas, Solomon Nandepe, Josiah Jimmy, Lavax Ketauwo, Bali Las, Joel Kapia Kee, Toware Kaneke, Ereman Ken, Anderson Benford, Dickson Amea, John Ragi, Nickson Borana.
