8:40 am on 16 June 2014

Tonga's Prime Minister says the Government will scrutinise ongoing electricity tarrif hikes with help from the International Renewable Energy Agency or IRENA.

The Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, says the Tonga Energy Road Map has provided more than 100 million pa'anga to Tonga Power to help with their operations.

But despite several solar power projects in place, there has still been a hike in electricity costs.

Lord Tu'ivakano says the Government has asked IRENA to investigate Tonga Power's finance management and administration.
