Papua New Guinea's Police Commissioner has been granted a knighthood in the same week he has been given a 21-month jail sentence.
Government House announced that as part of the 2014 Queen's Birthday awards, Tom Kulunga will be knighted for distinguished services to the Royal PNG Constabulary.

The announcement came a day after Mr Kulunga was sentenced.
He was earlier convicted on contempt of court charges for failing to reinstate Geoffrey Vaki as Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations after he was suspended on cabinet orders in 2012.
The judge who sentenced the Commissioner, Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika, is also being made a knight.
Their titles will be bestowed in two months time.
The Post Courier reports Government House is seeking legal advice before Buckingham Palace is advised of the matter regarding the Commissioner's conviction.
