PIDF aims for a Pan Pacific Green Growth Framework

2:29 pm on 17 June 2014

There are hopes the Pacific Islands Development Forum, meeting over the next few days in Nadi, will come up with a plan for sustainable green growth in the Pacific.

The Fiji instigated regional agency is holding its second annual summit under the theme of Green Growth in the Pacific - Building Resilient and Sustainable Futures.

The keynote speaker is the President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and the presidents of Nauru and Kiribati are also attending, along with business and civil society representatives.

The PIDF secretary general Feleti Te'o says what they hope to achieve are linkages between what is done at the regional level and what can be done on a national basis.

"At the moment we have the MSG [Melanesian Spearhead Group] which is a sub regional arrangement and we are hoping that through the course of the next few days PIDF will come up with a Pan Pacific framework for green growth for the Pacific, which would link to the sub regional arrangement and hopefully connect well with the efforts being done at the national level."
