American Samoa teachers' salaries to be reviewed

8:10 pm on 19 June 2014

The Government in American Samoa is to review the salary structure in its public school system to ensure teachers are fairly paid.

The governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, has established a teacher reclassification committee that has three months to complete its task and report back.

The committee has to reclassify the salary structure for all teachers and align salaries with their credentials, experience and PRAXIS test results.

The PRAXIS test measures teachers' knowledge and skills in core areas.

Lolo says the committee may choose to include other criteria to ensure teacher salaries are equitably set and based on clearly-defined benchmarks.
