Sport: Fiji and Samoa make four changes for PNC showdown

11:05 am on 20 June 2014

Manu Samoa coach Stephen Betham admits a rash of injuries have forced them to alter their preparation for Saturday's must-win Pacific Nations Cup clash against Fiji in Suva.

Both teams have made four changes to their starting fifteen's.

Samoa's Super Rugby stars Alapati Leiua, Faifili Levave and Kane Thompson have returned to New Zealand after being ruled out of contention with Johnny Leota and Taiasina Tuifina coming into the run-on team.

Elsewhere, Filo Paulo replace Fa'atiga Lemalu at lock and Maurie Faasavalu comes in for Ofisa Treviranus on the openside flank.

Stephen Betham says he's been conscious not to push the players too hard.

"Started off with a 30 man squad [and] now we're down to 24 so yeah there's a few things we have to do differently this week. [We] eased back a bit on training because of injury worries but it doesn't stop the intensity we think we need to take on the Fijians this weekend."

Fiji have made three changes out wide with Metuisela Telabuse, Napolioni Nalaga and Asaeli Tikoirotuma replacing Timoci Nagusa, Watisoni Votu and Adriu Delai.
