Court stops CNMI Govt issuing casino licence

3:42 pm on 20 June 2014

The Northern Marianas Government has been prevented from making a decision on the licence for a huge casino project on Saipan after the Superior Court issued a temporary restraining order.

Associate Judge David Wiseman yesterday issued the order after a licence applicant, Marianas Stars Entertainment Inc, requested a TRO.

The company says it would have been irreparably harmed without the order.

Marianas Stars Entertainment and Best Sunshine International are both seeking an exclusive Saipan casino resort developer's licence.

Each party has already submitted a 1 million US dollar non-refundable application fee, a completed application and business plan, and paid a 30 million dollar refundable deposit.
