American Samoa seeks removal of 'unfair' entry fees

3:21 pm on 21 June 2014

American Samoa will seek the removal of entry permits and transit fees for US nationals who enter neighbouring Samoa.

In return, American Samoa will offer a free fourteen day permit for Samoans entering the territory.

The entry permit for American Samoans is 10 US dollars, while the transit fee is 50 US dollars.

American Samoa's Attorney General, Talauega Eleasalo Ale says the fees only apply to American Samoans and not to any other visitors, which he says is unfair.

Talauega says he is optimistic the proposals will receive favourable reviews at next week's Samoa summit between the two Samoas.
