Tonga's Attorney General to step down

Tonga's Attorney General will step down this week, saying the time is right for a Tongan lawyer to take over the role.

Matangi Tonga reports Neil Adsett saying that with important cabinet meetings, parliament sessions and elections approaching later this year, it is time for him to step down.

Mr Adsett has been Attorney General for the past two and a half years and has been involved with Tongan law for the past 25.

The Director of Prosecutions, Aminiasi Kefu, will step in as Acting Attorney General from this Thursday.
