Sport: PNG athletes in the medals

Sprint star Banuve Tabakaucoro made his first appearance of this year's Oceania Athletics Championships on Wednesday local time, running the final leg as Fiji won gold in the men's 4x100m relay.

Papua New Guinea won the women's relay, finishing more than a second clear of Australia, to cap a successful day on the track where Theo Piniau won gold in the men's 400m, Sharon Kwarula took out the women's 100m hurdles and Wala Gime the men's 110m hurdles.

Australia was also in the medals on day two of competition, with Tim McGuire winning the men's long jump and Tom Fawthorpe the 1500m title.

Jacinta Faint claimed another gold for Australia in the women's shot put, while New Zealand's Jacko Gill set a new championship record of 20.70m to take out the men's title.
