Papua New Guinea's deputy opposition leader Sam Basil has called on the speaker of parliament Theo Zurenuoc to immediately convene parliament.
Parliament was prematurely adjourned last month upon advice from the government.

The date that parliament is adjourned to, August 26th, is a national holiday.
Mr Basil says the adjournment was ill-advised and taken hastily as the prime minister Peter O'Neill sought to address attempts by police to arrest him over his role in allegedly illegal payments to a law firm.
He says parliament has to address the political crisis that has developed around this situation.
"You can see that all the members of parliament that are in government are rallying behind the Prime Minister, supporting him indirectly or directly not to go and hand himself in. So with those blockades from the members of parliament, we have to convene parliament and we have to put the issue on the table and debate it, on the floor of parliament."
