Papua New Guinea's former Attorney General Kerenga Kua has questioned a determination by his successor Ano Pala on the legality of controversial state payments to a law firm.
Mr Pala yesterday announced he has determined that there is nothing illegal in payments made by the state to Paraka Lawyers.
This comes amid a legal wrestle over an arrest warrant issued for the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill over his role in the allegedly illegal payments, following an extensive probe by the anti-corruption unit Taskforce Sweep.
Mr Kua, who was replaced last month shortly after the arrest warrant was issued, doubts the veracity of Mr Pala's determination that new material he has exonerates those charged.
"I was sitting in that office for twenty-two months and the stuff he's talking about is not new material, it's old stuff. It's very very meek and a very unintelligent approach to the whole subject matter. Time will tell."
