Samoa tests SIDS readiness

7:22 am on 12 July 2014

Trials are being held in Samoa to test the country's readiness for the Small Islands Developing States Conference later this year.

New buses donated by China were being tested on the roads, with police controlling the flow of traffic from Apia to the Faleata sports complex where the conference is being held.

Several roads in Apia are expected to be blocked for the duration of the conference so guests, government leaders and VIPs can be escorted to the venue.

The Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says testing the transporting of delegates is vital to make sure local people are aware of the plans.

Meanwhile, Tuila'epa, in a weekly radio address, said all accomodation for the conference was "five hundred percent" ready.
