Investigation into graphic Fiji torture video closed

Fiji Police have closed an investigation into the torture and beating of two prison escapees by Fiji security personnel last year.

The nine-minute video was posted online in March 2013, and showed the abuse of the men in graphic detail.

One man had to have his leg amputated after it was mauled by dogs.

The Police Chief of Operations, Rusiate Tudravu, confirmed that the case has been closed, but declined to explain what prompted the police decision.

Questions had been raised about the investigation since the incident, with Fiji authorities refusing to comment on it, or the attack itself.

Amnesty International says there's no evidence of an investigation having taken place at all.
