The Director of Guam's prison service has denied reports that a Russian cyber crime suspect detained on the island is being kept in squalid conditions.
Jose San Agustin says 30-year-old, Roman Seleznev, is being kept in conditions no different to any other prisoner; with access to a bed, mattress, blankets and toiletries.
Earlier this month, Mr Seleznev was seized by American secret agents while on holiday in the Maldives, forced on to a plane and flown to Guam where he was arrested.
A Russian diplomat was sent to Guam this week following concerns about Mr Seleznev's condition relating to a brain injury he sustained in a 2011 terror bombing in Morocco.
According to the Marianas Variety, Mr San Agustin says the detainee has had a full medical examination and is taking antibiotics.
The Russian will appear before the Guam District Court on Tuesday, where he could be extradited to the US mainland to face cyber crime charges.
