The President of Vanuatu's largest political party says ongoing moves by the Vanua'aku Pati to reconcile with other national parties could pave the way for mergers down the track.
The VP has been undertaking a number of reconciliations with other parties in Vanuatu's fragmented parliament, including the People's Progressive Party and the National United Party.
Edward Natapei says the next reconciliation is planned for next month with the Melanesian Progressive Party led by Barak Sope.
Mr Natapei says the VP will discuss the reconciliations next month at its congress when it considers a possible change of party name among other things.
"After all, these reconciliations are to allow us to start working together and start making plans on an eventual reunification. That's the main stage."
Edward Natapei says the Vanua'aku Pati will also vote on its presidency at the congress.
