PM launches 'Fiji Health for All'

8:31 pm on 28 July 2014

The Prime Minister of Fiji, Frank Bainimarama, says the attitude of some medical staff to their professional duties is a contributor to poor levels of healthcare in the country.

The government has launched 'Fiji Health for All', an initiative which promises to deliver better standards of healthcare in the country through a joint venture with India-based Apollo Hospitals.

The initiative will focus on cardiac sciences, neuroscience, orthopaedics, oncology and renal transplants.

The FBC reports Rear Admiral Bainimarama as saying the ability to deliver proper standards of care and meet the needs of ordinary people is a continuing challenge.

He says his government over the past six years has been playing a catch-up game with providing equipment, nurses and changing the attitude of some medical staff.

He says a better level of sensibility must be shown towards patients in Fiji's hospitals.
