One Fiji Party now allowed

The Fiji authorities have allowed the registration of the One Fiji Party, reversing last week's decision that the party was ineligible to contest the September polls.

Fiji Live reports the Registrar of Political Parties has admitted there had been an error in matching up data.

On Friday the Registrar, Mohammed Saneem, said the party had not collected the decreed number of signatures but after a review he found the threshold had been reached.

Fiji Live reports Mr Saneem also found the party would not be confused with the FijiFirst party but he has asked for One Fiji to submit a new logo.

The regime-led FijiFirst had earlier objected saying One Fiji was too close in name.

One Fiji is the seventh party to be registered.
